When I talked to Janine (co-owner HABI), she said that the mothers were only earning a small amount of money from making weaved rags. Their group took the idea of weaving then incorporating them into these shoes. They hired the mom’s of Kawan ni Sto. Nino Community to create a social enterprise. HABI means to weave in Filipino. Thus, HABI FOOTWEAR was born.
HABI FOOTWEAR uses recycled cloth for the woven portion and abaca fiber for the lining of the soles.
Old tires are given it’s second life by being used as the soles for the shoes.
So when you buy HABI, not only do you buy an eco-friendly shoe, but you can also help give these mothers a Happy Christmas.
